Get occasional emails on love, parenting, and living a joyful life
Hi there, I'm Julia
I believe that we all deserve to have a life and relationships that nurture and fulfil us.
I am a clinical psychologist turned psychotherapist and relationship coach who works with couples and individuals to find more joy in their everyday lives.
I run an in-person psychotherapy private practice in Godalming, as well as providing online psychotherapy and coaching.
I am passionate about working with clients to improve their daily lives by offering a safe, confidential and non-judgemental therapeutic space in which to work through difficult life-events or experiences of distress. People may also seek therapy with me if they are feeling stuck in aspects of their lives or relationships and are needing help to process and move through these experiences.
I work with people of all ages and backgrounds and am trained to deal with a range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, personality disorders, relational problems within couples and families, as well as parenting education and support.
I have a special interest and expertise in couples and parenting work.
Becoming a parent can be an exciting and wonderful time, but it is often an equally overwhelming and emotive experience, that can place a lot of strain of your relationship. I work with couples at various stages of their relationship.
I work collaboratively with all clients to ensure a therapy experience that is tailored to your unique needs, offering both short and longer term interventions.
I work within a psychodynamic framework, particularly a Self Psychological model of thinking, and draw on various modalities including Attachment-based therapies, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Narrative Therapy.

About
I trained as a clinical psychologist in South Africa, where I worked in both the public and private health sectors. Since moving to the UK I have registered as a psychotherapist.
I believe therapy is a collaborative process, where each person brings a unique set of life experiences and resources. We will work together to understand these experiences and patterns, whether these are current or stretch back to early life.
I deal with a range of concerns, including depression, anxiety disorders (including antenatal and postnatal), mood disorders, personality disorders, relationship difficulties, adjustment disorders and parent-child relationship problems.
What to expect
Before our initial session it is useful to chat via email, to get a sense of your concerns and to answer any questions you might have.
In order for therapy to be effective it is important that there is a good fit between you and your therapist. I usually suggest three weekly sessions before we commit to and contract around a therapy process, after which time I am better able to make recommendations for therapy and you have an idea of what the process will entail and whether you feel comfortable with me.
Sessions run for 50 minutes and are typically scheduled at the same time each week.
I see people in-person, or online via Zoom, as well as offering online courses, workshops and speaking events.
Fees
Individual Psychotherapy £90 per 50-minute session.
Couples Therapy £90-£125 per 50-minute session.
I work in-person in Godalming, Surrey and online.
